Looking back at my year in books in 2017, I can’t help but feel grateful for the wonderful stories, knowledge, and inspiration that I have gained from the pages of the books I read. From fiction to non-fiction, classics to contemporary, each book has left its mark on me in different ways.

One of the standout books of 2017 for me was “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood. This dystopian novel, set in a future society where women are subjugated and stripped of their rights, was a chilling and thought-provoking read. It made me reflect on the importance of fighting for equality and justice, and the dangers of complacency in the face of oppression.

On the lighter side, “Big Little Lies” by Liane Moriarty was a fantastic page-turner that kept me hooked from start to finish. The gripping plot, complex characters, and unexpected twists made it a truly enjoyable read. It was a reminder of the power of friendship, the strength of women, and the secrets we all hide beneath the surface.

In the realm of non-fiction, “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind” by Yuval Noah Harari was a mind-blowing exploration of the history of our species. From the evolution of Homo sapiens to the rise of civilizations, Harari’s narrative was both enlightening and thought-provoking. It made me rethink my place in the world and the impact of human actions on the planet.

Overall, my 2017 in books was a diverse and enriching journey through different genres, authors, and perspectives. Each book contributed to my growth as a reader, thinker, and person, and I am grateful for the experience of immersing myself in their worlds.

As I look forward to the new year and the new adventures that await me in the pages of books, I am excited to continue expanding my horizons, challenging my beliefs, and discovering new truths. Books have the power to transport us to different times and places, to open our minds to new ideas and possibilities, and to connect us with the human experience in all its complexity. Here’s to another year of reading, learning, and growing through the magic of books.
