As book lovers, we all have those titles that we absolutely cannot wait to get our hands on. However, sometimes life gets in the way and those books end up sitting on our shelves, gathering dust. Here are five books that I was so excited to get, but for some reason or another, I still haven’t read:

1. “Circe” by Madeline Miller – When this book was first released, I heard nothing but rave reviews. I immediately went out and bought a copy, eager to dive into the world of Greek mythology and the story of the witch Circe. Unfortunately, it has been sitting on my nightstand for months now, untouched.

2. “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern – The premise of this novel, a mysterious circus that only appears at night, captured my imagination from the moment I read the synopsis. I couldn’t wait to unravel the secrets of the circus and its enigmatic performers, but alas, I have yet to crack open the cover.

3. “Educated” by Tara Westover – This memoir has received high praise for its gripping story of a woman’s journey from a survivalist upbringing in rural Idaho to earning a PhD from Cambridge University. I was intrigued by the author’s incredible resilience and determination, but, to my dismay, I have not yet found the time to read her memoir.

4. “The Goldfinch” by Donna Tartt – As a fan of Tartt’s previous works, I eagerly anticipated the release of this Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. The story of a young boy’s life in the aftermath of a tragic event seemed like it would be a compelling read, but it has been languishing on my bookshelf, unread.

5. “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt – Another book by Donna Tartt makes the list, and for good reason. “The Secret History” is often hailed as a modern classic, with its dark themes and intricate storytelling. I was thrilled to add it to my collection, but I have yet to take the plunge into its mysterious world.

While it’s easy to feel guilty about neglecting these books I was so excited to read, it’s important to remember that there’s no rush to finish them all at once. Sometimes, it’s nice to save a good book for a rainy day when you need a little escape from the stresses of everyday life. In the meantime, I’ll keep these titles close by, waiting for the perfect moment to finally crack them open and immerse myself in their stories.
