There are countless books out there that have left readers hungry for more, eagerly anticipating the release of a sequel that unfortunately never came. Whether it be a beloved character whose story we want to see continued, a world we can’t bear to leave behind, or simply an unresolved cliffhanger that haunts us, there are plenty of books that could have benefited from a follow-up. Here are the top ten books I wish could have had sequels.

1. “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern – This enchanting and atmospheric novel about a magical competition between two young illusionists captured readers’ imaginations, but left us wanting more from the world of the circus.

2. “Eleanor & Park” by Rainbow Rowell – The bittersweet love story of Eleanor and Park stole the hearts of many readers, and we would love to see where their relationship goes next.

3. “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak – This haunting and powerful tale set in Nazi Germany ended on a heartbreaking note, leaving readers wondering what happened to its courageous heroine, Liesel.

4. “Never Let Me Go” by Kazuo Ishiguro – This dystopian novel about cloned humans raised to be organ donors was both thought-provoking and emotionally devastating, and many readers would like to see what becomes of its characters.

5. “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah – This epic historical fiction novel set during World War II followed two sisters in occupied France, and readers are eager to know more about their lives after the war.

6. “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt – This dark and atmospheric novel about a group of eccentric college students who become embroiled in murder was a bestseller, and readers are still clamoring for a sequel.

7. “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini – This moving novel about friendship, betrayal, and redemption in war-torn Afghanistan left readers wanting more of its compelling characters and powerful storytelling.

8. “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett – This bestselling novel about African American maids in 1960s Mississippi was both heartwarming and thought-provoking, and readers would love to see what happens to its characters in the years that follow.

9. “The Ocean at the End of the Lane” by Neil Gaiman – This haunting and lyrical novel about a man who returns to his childhood home and recalls a supernatural adventure he had as a boy left readers craving more of Gaiman’s magical storytelling.

10. “The Goldfinch” by Donna Tartt – This Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a young boy who survives a terrorist attack and becomes entangled in the world of art theft kept readers on the edge of their seats, and many would love to see what becomes of its protagonist in the future.

These are just a few of the many books that left readers yearning for a sequel. While it’s unlikely that we’ll ever get to see follow-ups to these beloved stories, we can always hold out hope that the authors may one day return to these worlds and characters that captured our hearts and minds. Until then, we’ll just have to use our imaginations to dream up our own endings for these unforgettable tales.
